Written and recorded for the virtual geekpop festival 2011, "Difference engine" takes its inspiration from the story of the Difference Engine, a Victorian computing contraption, and the main brains behind its invention: Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace.

time, time was when we were friends
and I thought that time would never end
time, time was when we were friends
but the difference engine strikes again

down to the thirty-first degree
you know exactly what I mean
but you miscalculated what to do with me...

x marks the spot
where we fell into place
at a function in London
I saw the cogs rotate it’s a practical glimpse
of a theory made brass
well, this could be different
let’s make it last

I try, try to talk you into sense
because you want to lose us all our friends
the implications are immense
but the difference engine strikes again

this polynomial design
says we’re not so different this time
and we both miscalculated where all this could lead us...

x marks the spot
where we discovered our fate
it’s looming before us
I said, please demonstrate how the sum of our lives
could be rendered as brass
and that made the difference
yes, that was the start
that made the difference
but now it’s all in the past
