Solipsistic 03:26
solipsistic - that’s what you are but you still drove here in someone else’s car solipsistic - how could I disagree when I’m not really here, this isn’t really me? it must be you who made me start this fight now I’m going home, soon I’ll be out of sight so it’s just you - you and no one else so I guess once more, you’ll be drinking by yourself so I guess once more, you’ll be drinking by yourself [chorus] solipsistic... if there’s no one else x 2 you’ll just have to stop and . . . thank yourself if there’s no one else x 2 you’ll just have to stop and . . . congratulate yourself the solecism of your solipsism is to blame when a tree falls down, I guess it shares your pain solipsistic - that is you but also me and at last here’s something on which we can agree x 3 [chorus]

Arthur 02:46
The storytelling Mam gave you the best Jesuits and medicine provided the rest The greatest mind the world has ever known became a millstone round your neck, the only one who wouldn’t go Arthur (they’re not coming back) They can’t hear you (they’re not coming back) And you can try to do it all and you can fill the Albert Hall and you can call Adventures, identities and hounds The denizens of Baker Street followed you around A push off the Reichenbach Falls You had the power to bring him back, But you couldn’t save them all Arthur (they’re not coming back) They can’t hear you (they’re not coming back) And you can knock on tables, trust in fairies and fables and do the best that you are able, Arthur, but they won’t come back There’s so many of them And it’s more, much more, than a three-pipe problem Arthur (they’re not coming back) They can’t hear you (they’re not coming back) And you can try to do it all and you can fill the Albert Hall and you can call, but they won’t come back

A democratic scene – you know I’m keen to win a vote – from you, from you… I exercise my right, put up a fight, you know it’s time to see what I can do, oh… Don’t you understand the world could be a better place If only we could ditch the party line CHORUS Cos we’re tough on love and we’re tough on the causes of lovers we’re tough on love and we’re tough on the causes of lovers cos everything changes and friends turn to strangers, it’s true we’re tough on the causes of love… an interesting speech, I’m sure that each of us could feel your pain, as you took the strain the rhetoric of love fits like a glove but now you really should get off your knees – it looks like rain the legislative thunder and the lightning of romance – (oh can’t you hear them) insisting we take shelter, take this chance CHORUS we’re tough on love and we’re tough on the causes of lovers we’re tough on love and we’re tough on the causes of lovers cos everything changes and friends turn to strangers, it’s true we’re tough on the causes of love… toe the party line... I solemnly declare I will repair and I will heal these wounds of love So look into my eyes, a man who cries is surely sensitivity itself – a new kind of man The ignorance and vanity, hypocrisy and vice Well, these are not as bad as love and you don’t need to tell me twice CHORUS we’re tough on love and we’re tough on the causes of lovers we’re tough on love and we’re tough on the causes of lovers cos everything changes and friends turn to strangers, it’s true we’re tough on the causes of love… toe the party line, toe the party line...

I don’t want to work, don’t want to play I just want to hang around and stare at the walls all day don’t want to know how to get on but I want to sit and I want to think I know it’s not it’s not right but I’m not sure it’s wrong I need time to cogitate and get my hands on something strong and if I had all the time in the world then I would sit and I would think and drink and drink to you, that’s all I can do let’s think it through, or try something new I don’t want to get out of the rain I let my black dog off the lead to splash about in shades of grey it’s not time to stop but it’s time to go it is time to sit and time to think and drink and drink to you, that’s all I can do let’s think it through, or try something new

about

Produced by Spirit of Play and Martin Austwick, the first EP from Spirit of Play pays tribute to the creator of Sherlock Holmes, revels in melody and generally misbehaves.

Indie-ish yet eclectic in style, SOP have been compared to Belle & Sebastian and The Divine Comedy, but also Shudder To Think. They have "played" the virtual Geekpop festival several times, with one song, "Wave or particle", being featured in a Nature magazine podcast, and another, "geek of the week", becoming the promo tune for the successful Geek Calendar in aid of Libel Reform. Live appearances include Geekpop (in non-virtual mode), the Green Man Festival and Mariella Frostrup's Book Show on Sky Arts.
